If you give a Mouse a Cookie
如果你给老鼠吃饼干
If you give a mouse a cookie, he's going to ask for a glass of milk.
如果你给老鼠吃饼干，他就会跟你要一杯牛奶。
When you give him the milk, he's probably ask you for a straw.
当你给他牛奶喝，他会跟你要一根吸管。
When he's finished, he'll ask for a napkin.
等他用吸管喝完奶，他会跟你要一张餐巾擦嘴巴。
Then he'll want to look in a mirror to make sure he doesn't have a milk mustache.
然后他就想照照镜子，看看嘴唇上方有没有长出牛奶胡子。
When he looks into the mirror, he might notice his hair needs a trim.
当他照镜子的时候，他发现，因为是用吸管喝的牛奶，所以没有长出牛奶胡子，但是他的头发长了，需要修剪一下。
So he'll probably ask: Can I have a pair of nail scissors?
所以，他会跟你要一把小小的指甲剪刀。
When he's finished giving himself a trim, he'll want a broom to sweep up.
当他给自己修剪好头发之后，发现地上到处都是头发，于是很不好意思的要来一把扫帚，准备做一次大扫除。
He might get carried away and sweep every room in the house.
他可能会一时兴起，把每一个房间都打扫一遍。
He may even end up washing the floors as well!
甚至最后把地板也刷洗了一遍。
When he's done, he'll probably want to take a nap.
大功告成，小老鼠想睡个午觉。
You'll have to fix up a little box for him with a blanket and a pillow.
你还得给他拾掇出一个小盒子睡觉用，还得准备毛毯和枕头。
He'll crawl in, make himself comfortable and fluff the pillow a few times.
他会爬进你给他准备的床铺，躺得舒舒服服的，再把枕头拍得蓬松一点。
He'll probably ask: Can you read me a story?
对了，他还会请你给他念个故事。
So you'll read to him from one of your books, and he'll ask to see the pictures.
你就会选一本书读给小老鼠听，可是他听了故事还会想看画面。
When he looks at the pictures, he'll get so excited he'll want to draw one of his own.
当他看了画面，起劲得要自己动手画一幅。
He'll ask for paper and crayons.
他会要你给他纸和蜡笔。
He'll draw a picture.
然后就动手画起来。
When the picture is finished, he'll want to sign his name with a pen.
等到画画好，他要签上他的大名，而且用钢笔。
Then he'll ask: Can I hang it on your refrigerator.
然后他就想把他的作品贴到你家的冰箱上。
Which means he'll need scotch tape.
也就是说他需要胶带。
He'll hang up his drawing and stand back to look at it.
等到他的画贴好，他会退后两步欣赏它。
Looking at the refrigerator will remind him that he's thirsty.
不过，一直盯着冰箱看，他就会觉得口渴。
So he'll ask: Can I have a glass of milk?
所以，他会跟你要一杯牛奶喝。
And chances are if he asks for a glass of milk, he's going to want a cookie to go with it.
既然他要喝牛奶，自然会要块饼干来搭配着吃咯。
